Your files. Safely put away.

A cleaner place for everything.

Secure file storage and sync for your personal and work files. Personal files are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can open them.

Windows and macOS first, iPhone and the web coming soon

Why Stow

Personal and work, side by side.

Sign in to both on one computer. They're separate accounts with separate folders, so work stays with work and your own files stay yours.

Personal

  • End-to-end encrypted, even file names
  • Only you can open it, not even Bryder
  • Share folders with people who use Stow

Work

  • Team folders for everyone, or chosen people
  • When someone leaves, the files stay
  • Your employer never sees your Personal account

Team folders are Standard unless you choose otherwise. Standard isn't end-to-end encrypted, so our servers can read it. What that means

Encrypted before it leaves your device.

In your Personal account and any end-to-end encrypted folder, files are locked on your computer, not on our servers.

  1. 1Your device locks it

Each file and its name are encrypted before they upload.

  2. 2We store scrambled data

Our servers only hold data we can't read.

  3. 3Only your devices unlock it

A shared folder's key goes only to its members' devices.

We can still see file sizes, dates, when things change and who's in a shared folder. Never what's in your files, or what they're called.

The honest bit: your recovery key

Lose both your passphrase and your recovery key, and nobody can get your encrypted files back. Not us, not anyone. That's what end-to-end encryption means.

Client work, without the email chains.

Share a team folder with a client, or send a link. One tidy place for your work and their files.

  1. Invite by email

Clients can view or edit. They sign in, or join with a free Stow account.

  2. Ask for files

A request link takes uploads without an account, up to 50 MB a file.

  3. Share a view link

Add an expiry date and a password. Turn it off any time.

  4. See what happened

Changes, downloads and link use are all in the folder's history.

Links and the full history work in Standard folders. Encrypted folders are shared by invite only.

Sync that doesn't lose things.

Each account gets its own Stow folder: in File Explorer on Windows, and in your home folder on a Mac. Changes sync both ways.

  • Clashes keep both copies

    Nothing gets overwritten.

  • 30 days to change your mind

Deleted files wait in Recently deleted.

  • Old versions kept

The last 10 versions of each file, for 30 days.

  • A pause before mass deletes

    Stow checks with you first.

Stow on the web Coming soon

  • Drag files in to upload

When can I start using Stow?

Stow is in development. Windows and macOS come first, then iPhone and the web. Join early access and we'll email you when it's ready.

Can I have a personal and a work account?

Yes, both on one computer at once. Each has its own folder, Stow (Personal) and Stow with your team's name, with one Stow icon and a switcher.

Can my employer see my personal files?

No. Personal and Work are separate sign-ins, not two folders in one account. Your team can open its team folders, never your Personal account.

What does end-to-end encrypted mean?

Files and their names are encrypted on your device before they upload, and only your devices can decrypt them. Our servers hold scrambled data we can't read.

What's the difference between Private and Standard folders?

Private folders are end-to-end encrypted. Only members' devices can open them, and they can't have links. Standard folders are encrypted when stored, but they're not end-to-end encrypted, so our servers can read them. That lets your team recover files and use view and request links. Team folders are Standard unless you choose otherwise, and you can make one end-to-end encrypted instead. Your Personal account is always end-to-end encrypted.

Can Bryder see my files?

Not in your Personal account, or in any end-to-end encrypted folder. Our servers can read Standard folders, but only the people given access can open them.

Can I share with people outside my team?

Yes. Invite anyone by email to view or edit a folder, and they join with a free Stow account. Standard folders can also have view links, with an expiry date and an optional password, and request links for receiving files.

What if I forget my passphrase?

Your recovery key gets you back in. Lose both, and nobody can get your end-to-end encrypted files back, including us. Standard team folders don't need your passphrase.

Does Stow work with File Explorer and Finder?

Yes. On Windows each account's folder shows in File Explorer. On a Mac the folders sit in your home folder, ready to drag into Finder's sidebar.

What if I delete something by mistake?

It stays in Recently deleted for 30 days. Stow keeps the last 10 versions of each file for 30 days too, and it pauses before big deletes.

Where are my files kept?

On Stow's servers in Sydney, Australia, run for us by Supabase. End-to-end encrypted files are only ever stored there scrambled.

How much will it cost?

Early access is free. Plans will be announced before launch.

Who makes Stow?
